Midterms and Field Trips

I already have a couple fo these pics up but this one is the best and I guess it didn't come off my camera last time.

I was going to meet up with Kailey for dinner at Pembroke but she was a bit late so I explored a local church.

Creepy

Spooks and Spies has kept me really busy. I cannot keep up with all the reading as hard as I try! But I also don't want to spend all my time reading for homework when I'm in such a wonderful place with wonderful people. I had a midterm that I stayed up really late writing and it was really crazy. Thankfully like everyone else in my class was in the same situation so I don't feel so bad.

A late night walk after writing my Midterm.
I was able to get my midterm in in pleanty of time and I took a nap in the courtyard of Bodley's Court on a free towel I randomly got in Venice. I needed the nap and oh what a place to take it! I went to dinner and met a girl named Marissa. We went and listened to the Mozart concert through the doors of King's Chapel and chatted. We really hit it off! I like her a lot. From there we ran into Tommy and Teresa who were going Punting so Marissa and I decided to join them.

Tommy, Marissa, and me

The bottom right window on the front and the bottom three windows closest to us belong to my room! Tour guides always say "do you see those three windows? Those belong to the same room!"

Teresa's turn!

On our way back, we passed this boat we passed earlier. Earlier its inhabitants were on the shore smoking pot but now they were punting home. The guy punting was sitting in the back on the pole and he decided to splash us by bouncing the pole in the water with his leg. We all squeeled and told Tommy to splash them back. They all said "no Tommy, noooooo! no no Tommy. Please no. No Tommy!" for like a minute after we had long since passed them. It was funny. We decided to make it an inside joke and laughed about it.

The next day I was off to the Duxford Air show. I got to Pembroke early so I decided to check out their chapel. It's really gorgeous!

When we got there, Dr. Martland introduced us to an LDS USAF guy who was going to give us a tour. Me, Chase, and Dan were the only ones to follow him and it was really informative. Dan has joined the Air Force and was thus really excited about everything! It made me feel a little nostalgic about my Air Force days.

I got super hot. It was finally time for the Air Show where they flew all their old WWII planes! It was so fun! But really hot. I was really gross and sweaty the whole time.

After the air show, I was just incredibly gross. I was going to just eat and then hide out in my room but it turns out some of my friends were going punting so I decided to go again. I went in a boat with some Asians and Peter. Peter was having the worst day ever. He missed the bus to come to the air show, he broke the punting pole, and later lost his phone. Thankfully he found it again. Peter is a really fun guy, though.

I wish I got a better picture but this was the most bizarre bird I've ever seen.

I'm finally getting better

The next day was a field trip to Bletchley Park. First we went to stop at the American cemetery near Cambridge. It was really really touching. Our English tour guide conveyed just how much these young American lives and sacrifices meant to him and the English. It is so crazy to think about these boys and girls as young as 18 willing to pay the ultimate price for a war that wasn't of much consequence to them in their home towns. It made me think of the resiliency of humans. These boys went to D-Day and despite everyone dying around them, including best friends, they still had the strength to keep moving forward. I can't even imagine it. Also hard to believe is that they trained for about a year in England before only getting killed as soon as they landed in Normandy. It's so nuts to think about.

The Wyomingite I found. He probably grew up in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere on a ranch and never left until coming to England. He was on a bomber.

Next we headed to Bletchley park where the codebreakers of WWII were stationed. It was just this really ugly mansion that the government secretly bought. This is where they built some of the first computers used in codebreaking.  Unfortunately I was really exhausted and the heat was really getting to me so I wasn't able to glean as much from it as I would have liked. It was Dr. Martland's birthday, though, so Peter and I got him a card. When I gave it to Dr. Martland he kissed me on both cheeks and called me sweetheart! He's such a sweety!! I hope I won browny points.

That night, I came home and had a pick nick with some of the BYU kids at King's gardens and a local member, Tom. We did cartwheels and somersaults and hand stands and it was just a jolly good old time. As I was walking home I came across some friends who were just having beers by the river. We chatted some and then they went to a bar and I declined to go with them as I needed sleep bad. I was ecstatic to learn that I didn't have class until the next day at 3:25 so I slept in until 11 this morning and it was glorious.

Sydnie and I were watching Punters go by and this one glamorous Asian lady with a big black floppy lace hat and coral lipstick went by. She was taking a picture of us and then her companion started taking pictures so we posed and smiled and giggled. Then she smiled at us and her companion gave us a peace sign. It was awesome.

As I was coming back into my room, a worker here said "you must have done very well on your exams" "Oh really" "Yes, that room is reserved for those who do the best on their exams!" Seriously, could I be any luckier??
